Clayton Homes

Clayton is one of the largest manufactured home builders in the country, with multiple plants producing different model series. In Texas, you'll commonly see homes built at Clayton's Athens and Sulphur Springs plants — including the NXT line out of Athens and the Independent series out of Sulphur Springs — each with its own mix of floor plans, standard features and price points. Two homes both labeled "Clayton" can come from different plants and series, so it's worth asking which one you're actually comparing.

Champion Homes

Champion is another major national manufacturer, building homes under several series and model-code conventions (you'll often see codes like "RM" followed by numbers describing the home's dimensions, such as a 28-foot by 56-foot floor plan). Champion homes in our area are commonly built at their Burleson, Texas plant, which keeps delivery times and transport costs reasonable for North Texas buyers.

How to tell model series apart

Every manufactured home has a model number or code, usually tied to its dimensions and series — for example, a code describing a 28x56 double-wide will look different from a 32x76. That code is more reliable than a marketing name alone (model nicknames sometimes get reused or renamed between seasons), so if you're comparing the "same" home across two dealers, check the model number and manufacturer plant, not just the name.

Why the manufacturer matters

Beyond floor plan and price, the manufacturer determines construction details like wind-zone rating, standard insulation and siding options, and warranty terms. If you have specific requirements — a particular wind zone rating for your county, for instance — that's a manufacturer-level question, not just a dealer-level one.
